Disney Villains over the years.

Because I’ve always loved villains…antagonists…

Pardon me but John SIlver is no villain.
But look at all this fabulousness

The Sweatbox, A Rarely Seen Documentary About Disney’s Failed Kingdom of the Sun Film Project

about 60% way through this.. it is pretty depressing tbh, just reiterates why I would never want to work in big studio animation even if i was remotely able to get a job in it.  the whole rigid air of artistic elitism is just so.. toxic to me.  just a hierarchy where 2 guys are basically in control of this enormous project.. I mean I understand they have to have some way to keep things going, if you let to many people voice opinions you could lose a lot of time but yeah just ugh it seems so soul crushing, everyone seems so terrified
eartha kitt… so amazing ;-;
sting makes me laugh though he’s like “qq i have to write songs again ugh my energy~~”.  like i feel sorry a bit just cos he got all his stuff thrown out but.. ripping off my fair lady hahah that part lmao.
w/e I liked the final movie a lot, but yeah still sad to see what it was the product of

oh shit, I better reblog this because this is my biz and I’m watching it right now.
from what I have experienced, animation is really a soul-rending thing because those who are good at it put all their heart and soul into something, but then to have your dreams taken over by others and reworked into their vision, or maybe entirely thrown out, is brutal as hell. I hope I can take it, you know?
But also working on someone else’s stuff you have less need to prove yourself as a creative force, than to just bring someone else’s vision to life. It’s a bit like doing really official fanart, but having the guy come in and tell you that they need it to be better or more like how they created it.
basically the thing I keep hearing over and over again is that nothing ever stays how it was imagined, and you need to keep re-pitching, re-doing, re-inventing, and making paths AROUND obstacles you’re presented with. I heard recently that the guys in France, Illumination, who did the new Lorax movie, made a movie that was full of dark humour and whatnot and after that got reviewed a lot of it had to be redone because you couldn’t do that with a movie like the Lorax, not for what they were going to market it as. They were told they needed to fix it and redo stuff and went in and ended up doing shit like adding characters and making a new script, they got to salvage a lot of their work which was evident(like for the Emperor’s New Groove, obviously) but a lot of good stuff they just had to let die. And I felt it was really obvious, especially when I watched it after reading about it, that they were told to redo their movie and I feel they did a really really good job working with what they were given to work around. I have to give it that much, credit where credit is due.
I like to say that I want to work on movies I have a personal connection with, movies I can really be proud of working on, but it just gets more and more obvious that I’ll either have to shelve that, or watch what I love get changed and go with it.
speaking of movies that got a gigantic shaft when it came to production because marketing probably shoved in a bunch of bullshit the producers had to work around, Hotel Transylvania had a trailer leak a bit ago and as soon as I can get a stable copy of it I’ll put it up here. Holy shit, working on that must’ve been a gong show. It’s gone through like 5 directors, had a bunch of big hollywood has-been names added, and then the last guy QUIT because of it, and now Genndy Tartakovsky left Cartoon Network to work on it and is releasing it. If you wanna know about someone trying to salvage an entire movie??? This would be it.
To be perfectly honest I want really badly to see it, just because of the drama it’s been through(and I love his Character designs for it).
edit: oh my god the song from Sting at 18:30m, oh god I can’t take it it’s so beautiful, why :( I’d do anything for a full version.

Pretty sure those are the opening notes of One Day She’ll Love Me, which was still included on the Emperor’s New Groove soundtrack with all of the other cut music. :)

Damn I want to see this.
